Charles Edward Ludbrook - Boot & Shoe maker (K 1896)

No 7 was situated across the alleyway from the two cottages that now house Southwold Museum. This alley, now a cul-de-sac, was then a cut-through to the High Street.

Charles Edward Ludbrook. Boot & Shoe maker. Agent for Singer Sewing Machines. (C1911). Mr Ludbrook moves to No 1 Corporation Cottages in St Edmunds Road in 1916 (K 1916) where he trades until 1924. (K 1924)
 

At some time in this decade the building is evidently demolished as photos taken in the early 1930s show the Goddard garage workshop occupying this site. See picture accompanying Nos 9-11.

Note: The number '7' has been reallocated to a new house built across the end of the passageway.

To the left are Nos 9-11 Victoria Street in the late 19th Century showing the alleyway which then connected with the High Street. To the right of the alleycan be seen the corner of No 7 (now demolished) where Mr Ludbrook's sign is mounted. An enlargement of the sign (below) shows the words: E LUDBROOK. BOOTS & SHOES. WE APPLY REPROOF.

The name in the 1911 Census is Ludbrooke. His sign omits the final 'e', perhaps for reasons of space!
